Gerbera is a genus of plants in the Asteraceae (daisy family). It was named in honour of German botanist and medical doctor Traugott Gerber (1710-1743), who travelled extensively in Russia and was a friend of Carl Linnaeus. Gerbera is native to tropical regions of South America, Africa and Asia. The first scientific description of a Gerbera was made by J.D. Hooker in Curtis's Botanical Magazine in 1889 when he described Gerbera jamesonii, a South African species also known as Transvaal daisy or Barberton Daisy. Gerbera is also commonly known as the African Daisy.
Peter O'Reilly is a professional photographer, specialising in landscape and travel photography. He was born in Dublin, Irish Republic, but has lived in the UK since he was 6 years old. Since Peter’s early school years, he has had a passion for the art and craft of photography, and on leaving school he was apprenticed to a busy photographic studio in Liverpool, where he learned his craft, moving on to become studio manager, and then to running his own business, where he specialised in portrait & wedding photography. At the same time, his love of both photography and hill walking led to the creation of many stunning images of the landscapes of Wales, England, Scotland and places further afield.
